Access keys

Access keys provide a keyboard shortcut to links or functionality on a page.

0 = Accessibility
1 = Home
3 = Sitemap
4 = Search (tab one for advanced search.)
5 = FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
6 = Help
7 = Contact Us
8 = Site Information
K for Kilo = Skip Navigation (Goes directly to the content of the page without having to tab through all the links.)
P for Papa = Print (Opens the print window.)
U for Uniform = Useful Links
X for Xray = Toggle between Text Only and Graphics Version
Y for Yankee = Aberdeen City and Shire Partners


Internet Explorer users.

  • Hold down the ALT key
  • Press the access key letter or number
  • Press ENTER


Firefox and Netscape Navigator users

  • Hold down the ALT key
  • Press the access key letter or number

Firefox 2 users

  • Hold down the ALT and SHIFT key
  • Press the access key letter or number

Apple Macintosh Users

  • Hold the CTRL key
  • Press the access key letter or number


Changing the text size

Aberdeen City and Shire portal has ensured that text can be scaled gracefully. The site can be viewed using one of three text sizes small, medium and large.


Firefox and Netscape Navigator users

The text size can be changed by pressing control (Ctrl) and plus to increase the text size and control and minus to decrease the text size. Control and zero changes the text size back to the original size.


Internet Explorer users

The text size can be increased further in Internet Explorer:

Using the mouse:

  • clicking on View on the menu toolbar
  • click on Text Size
  • click on one of five sizes of text from largest to smallest in descending order.

Using the keyboard:

  • Hold down the Alt key and press V (The alt key is usually to the left of the spacebar)
  • Press X

And press one of the five options

  • G for Golf = Largest
  • L for Lima = Larger
  • M for Mike = Medium
  • S for Sierra = Small
  • A for Alpha = Smallest
