The Robert Gordon University

"The best modern university in Scotland and the second best in the UK"

  • Expansion to create the best riverside campus in Europe
  • Four academic precincts and three support hubs on campus
  • Investors sought to complete £140m project

The Robert Gordon University is a dynamic modern university with an international reputation for providing high quality education from undergraduate to PhD level.

Over the next seven years the University plans to complete an ambitious relocation to a single campus by the River Dee on the edge of Aberdeen. Much has already been achieved, including the Sir Norman Foster designed Aberdeen Business School, and investment partners are now being sought to innovatively finance the estimated £140 million required to complete the campus.

43,500 sqm of additional development in six separate buildings is required to provide:

  • An art and architecture precinct in a  new 7,530 sqm building.
  • A refurbished business precinct to provide an additional 3,000 sqm.
  • University administration and support in 4,700 sqm of office accommodation.
  • A new 9,965 sqm Learning Resource Centre.
  • A new health precinct to provide 7,000 sqm for the new School of Pharmacy and Life Sciences.
  • A technology precinct providing 11,300 sqm to house the Schools of Engineering and Computing.

Each of these buildings must continue the tradition of producing iconic, sustainable architecture in a parkland setting that is an exemplar of a 21st century teaching and research environment. The expansion of the RGU campus is one of the most exciting higher education developments anywhere in the UK.
