Sporting Facilities

Aberdeen City and Shire is rich in its provision of Activities, Sports and Leisure facilities so whatever sport you want to try you’ll find plenty of opportunities both for residents and for visitors.

 

Beach Leisure Centre

For aqua fun, try the Beach Leisure Centre. With flumes, fountains and a wave pool  the centre is a firm family favourite.  It also houses a health suite and fitness studio where staff can draw up tailored fitness programmes for members of the Aberdeen Beach Leisure Centre.public.

A number of other privately run health clubs also offer superb facilities which help keep the people of Aberdeen on their toes.

Indoor Sports

Indoor sports enthusiasts can take part in their favourite sports at one of the six multi-sports centres run by the City Council.  They provide facilities for a range of sports and activities including:

badminton basketball bowling trampolining
volleyball hockey netball tennis*


*The Westburn Tennis Centre boasts four indoor courts and five floodlit all-weather courts.

Outdoor Sports

Outdoor sports fans are also well catered for with pitches throughout the city for rugby, hockey, cricket and of course we have Aberdeen Football Club. Aberdeen loves its football - whether it is watching or playing there's something for everyone.

Golf

Where better to experience golf than on the variety of fairways in Aberdeen City and Shire. Choose from 25 links courses such as the traditional links of Royal Aberdeen (the 6th oldest golf course in the world), to the scenery of our 45 inland courses including Dufftown which features Scotland's highest tee.

Bowling

The City of Aberdeen Bowling Tournament is another major event on the sporting calendar - this annually attracts is attracts some of the country's top outdoor bowlers.  Indoor bowling fans can also enjoy excellent facilities in the city including the Bon Accord Indoor Bowling Centre.

City by the Sea

Bounded as it is by the North Sea on the one side and the stunning scenery of Royal Deeside and the Cairngorms on another, Aberdeen is the gateway to a huge range of sporting options. On Aberdeen's beach  you’ll see windsurfers, canoeists in the water and along the esplanade roller skaters, cyclists, joggers and walkers.   

Inland Pursuits

The area is a favourite with walkers whether they are enjoying some of the walks in the city environs or taking to the hills for something more challenging. Other activities such as fishing , mountain biking, claypigeon shooting and even gliding are all easily accessible from Aberdeen.

 Wildlife

Or why not explore the countryside and encounter the indigenous Wildlife. From the golden eagles to the iconic red deer stag, Aberdeen City and Shire is home to an inspiring range of animals.

Little wonder that Aberdeen City and Shire is proud of what it has to offer.

There are also many programmes for people with disabilities. Many of the athletes involved in these programmes have gone on to win medals at major sporting events including the Special Olympics and the Commonwealth Games.
