By Royal Appointment
The River Dee is one of the most famous salmon rivers in the world and is a major destination in its own right.
Spanning more than 87 miles, the River Dee rises in the Cairngorms and flows the Deeside settlements of Braemar, Ballater, Aboyne and Banchory before eventually passing through Aberdeen harbour and into the North Sea.
Queen Victoria established Balmoral in the valley of the River Dee as a royal retreat. It has been the Royal Family's home through seven generations since 1852 and Royal Deeside remains a favourite holiday hideaway. Every year members of the Royal Family attend the Braemar Highland Games and other local events.
